Mildred Virginia Wright Boitnott, born August 28, 1918, passed peacefully in the early morning hours of May 20, 2014 at the age of 95. Mildred was the last remaining sibling from a family of eight. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Clarence Boitnott, and her daughter, Carolyn Elizabeth Boitnott Kennedy.
Mildred is survived by her granddaughter, Melissa Elizabeth Kennedy and her son-in-law, Philip Kennedy, whom she loved as dearly as a son.
A longtime member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Mildred was employed by Double Envelope and Piedmont Label before coming to own Boitnott Sheet Metal Works with her husband. Mildred was an avid antique collector with a great love for all of the beauty that the world had to offer in music and art. A gifted seamstress of prizewinning quilts, she was also a talented ceramics artist with a knack for needlework and floristry as well.
Mildred loved her community and was always happy to give back to the place that she called home. In that spirit and in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Bedford Domestic Violence Services, PO Box 783, Bedford, VA 24523 (the home of the Carolyn B. Kennedy Memorial Women’s Closet) in Mildred’s honor.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 AM, Friday, May 23, 2014 in Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. William Clark officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Tharp Funeral Home. Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, 586-3443.
