Millard Fillmore Hanger, Jr.

Millard Fillmore Hanger Jr., \"Papa Millard\", 81, of Lynchburg, VA, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ Wednesday, August 31, 2011.  He was the husband of the late Marjorie Vest Hanger.

 

Born December 16, 1929 in Detroit Michigan, the son of the late Millard F. Hanger Sr. and Viola E. Mayer.

 

He was a science teacher with Farmville School System, an aide at Central Virginia Training Center,  served his country during the Korean War with full honors and a member of Clearview Baptist Church.

 

He loved to joke with people, had a great sense of humor and always very pleasant.  He also had a strong passion for his country, loved the Lord and loved singing old hymns, \"What A Day That Would Be?\".

 

Millard is survived by his daughters; Deborah Arthur, Jane Shoemaker, Mary Vest Hall and husband Tommy, a son Kenneth Vest and wife Debra; a sister, Betty Hanger of Farmville; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeaced by a grandson, Jeffrey W. Hall.

 

The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM today, September 2, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg.  A celebration of Millard\"™s life will be held Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Clearview Baptist Church at 1:00 pm with Rev. Wayne Greene officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 16.
