Roanoke

Millicent Shawver "Millie" Napier passed away on March 5, 2025, in Roanoke, Virginia, at the age of 42. Millie was born on July 1, 1982, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She spent much of her early life in Columbia, Missouri and then moved to Gainesville, Florida, where she graduated from Buchholz High School. She pursued higher education at Santa Fe College, earning an Associate of Science degree. She later obtained a medical coding and billing degree from City College and completed coursework at the University of Florida. She received certification in massage therapy from the Florida School of Massage.

Millie briefly served in the United States Marine Corps, successfully completing boot camp up to the Crucifix before shin splints ended her service. Her faith journey began with confirmation into the Presbyterian Church, though she later attended services within other Christian traditions.

Throughout her life, Millie faced challenges but remained determined to overcome them. As a child, she was known for her bright smile. In her teenage years, she struggled with rebellion and difficult choices. However, in the years leading up to her passing, she worked hard to rebuild her life. She had been drug-free for three years and five months before her death and was committed to recovery.

Millie is survived by her mother, Araminta Hash Napier; her brother, James Charles Napier; her sister-in-law, Toni Ann Napier; her aunt, Marcia Lee Napier; her aunt, Lauren Centola Hash; her uncle, James Yeuell Hash, Jr.; and cousins James Yeuell Hash, III and Alexander Macdonald Hash. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Austin Napier; her grandparents Mildred Rumbo Napier and Charles Ellis Napier; and Mary Jeanette Symon Hash and James Yeuell Hash, Sr; as well as her aunt, Joanna Patterson Hash.

A memorial gathering will be held on May 22, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Blue Springs Cemetery, located at 2800 SW Walnut Street in Blue Springs, Missouri.

Millie's journey was one of resilience and determination. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew. Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Roanoke is assisting the family.
