Monte D. Kegley

Monte Delano Kegley, 73, of Evington, Va., died Thursday, April 15, 2021. He was the husband of Brenda Shupe Kegley for 44 years.
Born on February 10, 1948 in Altavista, Va., he was a son of the late Thomas Virgil Kegley and the late Pearl McDaniel Kegley. He was preceded in death by his sisters Patsy East; Lupe Adams and brothers Virgil Kegley and Terrell Kegley. and a stepson, Stanley Vaughan Hudson.
In addition to his wife, Monte is survived by his sister Peggy Tharpe (Jim) of Altavista; stepdaughters, Bonnie Yancey (Jerry) of Garner N.C. and Tonya Gooding (Douglas) of Snow Hill N.C.; stepson, Raymond Todd Hudson of Lynchburg; grandchildren, Tabitha Yancey of Evington, Dustin Yancey (Summer) of Kill Devil Hills N.C. and great grandchildren, Skylar and Hunter Pugh, Jorden Edwards, Linkin Stinnett, Brennan and Braelyn Yancey, Lynn and Robert Gooding and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was past Governor Lynchburg-South Moose Lodge 1727 from 1982-1983 and 1985-1986. Monte joined the Moose Legion Higher Degree of Service in 1978.
He was conferred with the Fellowship Degree of Honor in 1984 and in 1990 was conferred with the Pilgrim Degree of Merit at Mooseheart’s House of God. He was a member of both Altavista Moose Lodge 1433 and Lynchburg South Moose Lodge 1727 and was the Administrator of Altavista Moose Lodge from 2007 – 2011.
He retired a distributor for Archway Cookies and was currently the Administrator’s Assistant at Altavista Moose Lodge 1433.
Monte recently attained his Lifetime Membership into the Moose Fraternity for remaining a member of the Loyal Order of Moose for Fifty (50) years. He was an avid Bluegrass Music fan and enjoyed camping and socializing at numerous festivals. He never met a stranger or ran out of things to talk about.
A private inurnment will be held at Spring Hill Cemetery and the family is planning a Celebration of Life for a later date. At this time, the family will receive visitation at the residence.
In Lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation to the American Liver Foundation or American Heart Association in his honor.
