Msg. Danny Lee Grimes

Danny Lee Grimes, 70, of Forest, Virginia passed away on May 8, 2023, after his long and courageous fight with cancer.
Danny was born on May 23, 1952, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of the late Norman Grimes and Wanda Johnson (George).
Danny proudly served in the U.S. Army for 20 years and retired as a Master Sergeant. He then worked for Job Corps for 22 years where he was able to turn his passion for helping troubled youth into assisting many young people find successful careers. Danny enjoyed spending time with his family and playing golf. He enjoyed relaxing by watching his favorite Clint Eastwood westerns while sipping chocolate milkshakes. Danny was the jokester of the family and always brought his great sense of humor to any situation.
Danny is survived by his loving wife of 21 years Nancy Grimes; sons Brent Grimes and Shawn Ayers (Kim); daughters; Nichola Gehring (Christian), Melissa McKenzie (Scott), Danielle Tedder (Anthony), Toy Eagle (Kevin), and Taylar Congdon (Stephen) as well as 16 beautiful grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Anthony Grimes (Nancy) and sister Sherry Grimes.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Alan B. Pearson Cancer Center for the special care that they gave Danny.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 15 at 5:00pm at Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory, Lynchburg. A memorial service with military honors will follow at 6:00pm in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory, Lynchburg with Pastor Kevin Brooks officiating.
