Murrell Brooks Atkins
Murrell Brooks Atkins, 89, passed away on December 28, 2011, at Oakwood Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bedford, VA.
Mrs. Atkins was born January 1, 1922, in Campbell County, VA., a daughter of the late Hunter Franklin Brooks and Cora Elizabeth Almond Brooks. She retired from General Electric in 1984. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah\"™s Witness in Lynchburg.
She is survived by two sons and one daughter, Donald Edward Atkins, Sr. and his wife, Darby of Lynchburg, Joseph Garnett Atkins and his wife, Susan of Lynchburg, and Joan Atkins Kent of Bedford. She is survived by eight grandchildren, Stephanie Atkins of Medina, Ohio, Meggin Atkins of Lynchburg, Kendra Atkins Elder of Lynchburg, Donald (Ned) Atkins, Jr. of Virginia Beach, Carey Atkins Griffin of Forest, Kimberly Atkins Harlow of Evington, John (Jay) Kent, Jr. of Bedford, and William Jason Kent of Roanoke. She is survived by seven great grandchildren, and one great, great granddaughter.
Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters.
The family would like to thank the staff and the special nurses at Oakwood Manor for their compassionate and loving care given to their mother during her stay there.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 7, 2012, in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, VA. 24502, with Elder Don Fischer officiating. A visitation will immediately follow the service from 3:00 to 5:00 PM.
