Murrell Taliaferro Shelton

Murrell Taliaferro Shelton, 87, of Forest died Thursday, August 5, 2010 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born in Lynchburg, Virginia on September 29, 1922 a son of the late Frank Thorton Shelton and Bessie Horton Shelton. In addition to his parents Murrell is preceded in death by a brother, Horton Shelton; and a sister Ella Mae Jackson.

Murrell served our country with the United States Navy during WWII. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Forest, Virginia. He was a retired plant manager with Forest Industries; he loved hunting, fishing, tending to his garden and doing woodwork.

Murrell is survived by his loving wife, Edith Overstreet Shelton; a son Mike Shelton and his wife, Kelly of Forest; a daughter, Linda S. Smith and her husband, Donald of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Meredith Smith, Taylor Smith, Reed Shelton and Will Shelton.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 9, 2010 at Bethany United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Virginia Memorial Park Cemetery.
