Myra Gardner Nicely

Myra Gardner Nicely, 76, of Forest, died Monday, April 9, 2012. Born November 9, 1935 in Clifton Forge, VA; she was a daughter of Hattie King Gardner Brown and the late Miles L. Gardner.

Myra had a strong commitment to her family. The home she and Delbert made was the place to go, particularly for the holidays. She truly enjoyed all the family gatherings, especially Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving. Myra loved to read and play Canasta. She had a strong zest for life and was a fun loving person. She and Delbert loved their trips to Myrtle Beach for over 20 years.

In addition to her mother, Myra is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Delbert Glen Nicely; a daughter, Linda N. Shields and husband, Steve of Forest; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Deborah Knick Curtis.

Myra was preceded in death by her son, Miles Glen Nicely; brothers, Thomas Gardner and surviving wife, Stella, Robert Gardner and surviving wife, Sandra; and her step-father, Robert Brown.

The family extends special thanks to Clifton Street Dialysis Center, the Diabetes Renal Unit, and staff and nurses at Lynchburg General Hospital. Your care given to Myra and her family was greatly appreciated.

Visitation will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home. A Memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at Tharp Funeral Home.
