Myra Joy Simon died peacefully on January 21, 2019 at Westminster Canterbury in Lynchburg, VA.
She is survived by her daughter, Danielle Lewis and her husband, Chris, of Lynchburg, VA; son Eric Simon and wife Jenny of Camden, ME; daughter Michelle Candelaria and husband Alberto of New York, NY; four grandchildren Albert Candelaria Jr., Ella Simon, Lilly Lewis and Sierra Lewis. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Raymond Simon.
Myra was born on July 4, 1930 in New York, NY to Olga and Michael Pleskovic. Myra received a Nursing Degree from the Metropolitan Hospital School of Nursing, a Bachelor of Science Degree from Mercy College, a Master’s in Counseling Degree from Long Island University, and a Master’s in Social Work Degree from Columbia University.
Myra was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who treated everyone with kindness and compassion. She devoted her life to caring for others both at home as a mother and a grandmother, and at work, as a nurse and a social worker. She loved travel, reading and theatre. She will be deeply missed by family, friends and all who knew her.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Westminster Canterbury chapel with a reception to follow.
