Myrene Ross Brown, 83, of Big Island, escaped from the prison of Alzheimer’s into peace and life everlasting on July 28, 2021 in Forest, VA. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Robert T. (Bobby) Brown, for 63 years and loved walking hand in hand with him. Born January 21, 1938 in Smyth County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Ray J. Ross and the late Lucille Armstrong Ross. She was the eldest of 7 siblings. Sisters: Brenda R. Arthur (deceased), Sharon R. Clements (deceased), Rayetta R. Knight, and Ellen R. Branch. Brothers: Ronald V. Ross (deceased) and Rev. E. Larry Ross.
Myrene attended Phillips Business College and had a successful career as Branch Manager at the bank in Big Island where she retired after 30 years of service. She was a dedicated member of the Big Island Baptist Church where she served as treasurer for many years and volunteered with the Big Island Emergency Crew and the Big Island Fireman’s Auxiliary. Myrene enjoyed her membership in the Riverside Garden Club and although her specialty was primarily weeds, she loved and appreciated the beauty contributed by her friends. She also loved traveling, reading, shopping Williamsburg pottery, crocheting baby afgans and dish towels, slaying the daily crossword puzzle, singing out of tune, and being able to play one song, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, on the piano.
In addition to her parents and three siblings, Myrene was preceded in death by her daughter Van B. Satterfield and son-in-law Carter C. Satterfield. She is survived by her husband, Bobby; daughter, Ann Brown Chellman of Clayton, NC; three grandchildren, Lydia Rose Chellman, Joyce A. Satterfield, and Jessie A. Satterfield; and ten nieces and nephews.
