Myrna Pichon Nein, 79, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, June 1, 2019.
Myrna was born on June 9, 1939 in Danville, IL., She graduated with honors from Danville High School and went on to receive a Bachelors, Masters, and PhD from Michigan State University in Early Childhood Development. She went on to teach 1st grade at a school affiliated with State University of New York in Plattsburgh prior to accepting a position at Lynchburg College, her creativity and love of education shined through as she instructed student teachers to prepare for their new careers.
She and her husband Bob loved to travel, taking many trips and cruises around the world. It was during her sabbatical from Lynchburg College that she explored what would soon become her new love – painting. She won numerous awards throughout the years for her watercolors and oils. Myrna was still painting the last few months of her life.
One of the happiest memories of her childhood was a dog named Buttercup. This love of animals never left her. Throughout the years she had many four-legged friends who crossed the Rainbow Bridge before her. She was an avid sponsor of animal charities in Lynchburg and beyond, and her humanitarian spirit extended to many other charities where she often donated paintings and/or funds.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her brother Jean, and her sister Jessie. She is survived by her sister Jane; daughter Lorie; three grandchildren Shelton, Molly and Christian, as well as her stepdaughter Robin Manfredi and husband Ronnie; stepson David Nein and wife Nancy and her beloved dogs Shay and Matilda.
A visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A Celebration of her life will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Peakland Baptist Church, Lynchburg, VA.
