Myrtle Floyd Glass

Myrtle Gertrude Floyd Glass, 96, died Thursday, October 18, 2012 in Charlotte, NC.

 Born December 22, 1915 in Monroe, Virginia, Myrtle was a daughter of the late Clarence L. Floyd and Mary Gertrude Lyon Floyd.

 In addition to her parents Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James Abraham Glass, a sister, Elsie Mae Weaver, and an infant brother.

 She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Anne Glass Browning of Charlotte, NC; her son James Errol Glass and his wife Gail, of Forest, VA; her grandchildren: Heather Anne Ratliff and her husband Clint, of Mt. Juliet, TN and James Lawson Glass and his wife Nicole, of Midlothian, VA; three great grandchildren: Lyla Addison Glass, Chloe Anne Ratliff and Brinley Rose Ratliff; a sister, Frances Hayes, and a brother, Robert L. Floyd and his wife, Elaine, of Lynchburg.

 A long-time member of First Baptist Church of Lynchburg, Myrtle was a person of great warmth, and had a wonderful smile and sense of humor.  Her greatest gift was her devotion as a wife and mother.  She created beauty with her gift for floral arranging and by her talent as a painter.  Painting was a talent she fully developed in her later years and it brought her many hours of joy and many objects of beauty to those she loved.

 The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM Sunday October 21, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, October, 21, 2012 in the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, with the Rev. Dr. James Weaver and Rev. Dr. Doug Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

 In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church, 1100 Court Street, Lynchburg, VA 24504.

 Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
