Myrtle Martin Carr, 83, of Lynchburg died Friday August 22, 2014. She was the loving wife of the late John Thomas Carr, Sr.

Myrtle was born March 31, 1931 in Coffee, VA, a daughter of the late Walter Martin and Inez Johnson Martin. Myrtle worked in her younger years at Craddock Terry and was also a devoted homemaker who enjoyed gardening, embroidery and completing puzzles. She was a member of Calvary Cross Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children: John Carr, Jr. and Dawn Carr both of Lynchburg, and two special daughters: Susan Lawhorn of Lynchburg and Deborah Thompson of Gladys, three grandchildren: Tracy Wood and husband John, Bridget Radwan, and Dana Price all of Lynchburg, three great-grandchildren: Amirah, Ashgan, and Aalyiah, a brother James Martin of Silver Springs, MD, sister Louise Scott of Lynchburg, and brother William Martin of Blue Ridge.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her three children: Darlene Wood, Rhonda Carr, and Rodney Carr, her siblings: Maggie Reynolds, Lee Martin, and Mildred Ferris.

The family will receive friends at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg on Sunday, August 24, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm. A Graveside service will be held at Fort Hill Memorial Park on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 11:00 am.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Centra Hospice and Meals on Wheels.
