Nancy D. Moranda

Nancy D. Moranda, 93, beloved wife, mother, grand-mother and great-grandmother, passed away December 30, 2013, at Westminster-Canterbury with her daughter at her side. She was the wife of the late George E. Moranda.

Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, November 23, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Albert Dowell and Lillian Martin Dowell. After graduating Hendrix College, she married the love of her life, George E. Moranda, then a young officer in the U.S. Army, in 1943, to whom she was happily married for 65 years. Nancy was a dedicated \"Army wife\" throughout George\"™s 32 years of service to the United States, enduring the frequent separations and re-locations throughout the United States and Europe with characteristic grace and dignity. She also established her own career as school librarian and teacher, professions she served nobly and well, even as she devoted herself to supporting her husband and raising their two children, George Jr. and Margaret.

Nancy continued a lifetime of service to her church and community after retirement.   She was an active member and leader at Dinuba Presbyterian Church in Dinuba CA, and helped to make the construction and dedication of the new church in 2008 a reality. She was always the first to volunteer and serve those in need, and the last to seek credit for doing so. After moving to Westminster-Canterbury from CA in 2009 following the death of her husband, she kept a busy visitation schedule to those in full nursing care until precluded from doing so by her own failing health. Throughout her life, Nancy was sustained by her faith and the love of her family. She will be sorely missed by all of us who knew her, but we rejoice in a life and faith so fully and authentically lived.

Nancy is survived by her beloved daughter Margaret (Peg) Hoovler and son-in-law Gary Hoovler of Lynchburg; six grandchildren – Laura Miller (David), and Jennifer Trent of Lynchburg; David Frederick (Kim) of Choctaw, OK; Michael Hoovler (Bethany) of Stanardsville, VA; Scott Moranda (Deidre) of Cortland, NY; and Rose Moranda Ellis of Tyler, TX. Also surviving are 13 great-grandchildren – Blake Trent; Brittany, Emily, Sarah and Molly Miller; Julia, Isaiah, Justin and Kaitlynn Frederick; Ezra Shy; Isaac Hoovler; and Alexander and Nicholas Ellis; sister-in-law Jeannette Moranda, and many nieces and nephews.

Nancy was preceded in death by husband George E. Moranda and son George E. Moranda, Jr.

Nancy will be interred with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery; no date has been set for burial.
