Nancy Elder Johnson

Nancy Elder Johnson, 78, of Lynchburg, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of Curt H. Johnson, Jr. for 48 years. They were married by Maurice Grissom at First Baptist Church on December 1, 1967.
Nancy was born in Brookneal, Va. on September 3, 1937 to the late Josephine Elder. She was raised by her late grandparents, Ran Tucker Elder and Mattie Tucker Elder.
Along with her husband, she is survived by her daughter Christy Compton and husband, Chris; and two stepsons, David Johnson and wife, Janet, and Greg Johnson and wife, Alana; and many wonderful nieces and nephews, including Wayne and Kathy Overstreet, Margie and David Cartwright, and Karen and Dick Mason. She was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
She retired from Verizon, formerly Bell Atlantic, after 38 years of service.
The family will receive family and friends on Friday, January 1, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home at 1 p.m. with interment to follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
