Nancy Elizabeth Wood Royal, affectionately known as “Nana” by family and friends, Nancy departed this life on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Lynchburg General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Nancy was born on July 8, 1929 to the late Wyatt O. Wood and Clara Brown Wood. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Russell B. Royal, and daughter, Jacquelyn R. Jones.
Nancy was educated in the Campbell County Public School system. She joined St. James C.M.E. Church at an early age where she served on the Usher and Missionary Boards. In later years, Nancy attended Pleasant Valley Baptist Church until her death.
Nancy is survived by her devoted children, Russell D. (Wanna Mae) Royal of Lynchburg, VA, Tuawana R. (Spencer) Braxton of San Antonio, TX, and Constance N. Royal of Lynchburg VA.
She leaves to cherish her memories six grandchildren, Larry G. Jones, Rochelle (Richard) Spinner, Pamela M. Jones, all of Lynchburg, VA, Nicole C. Braxton, Spencer W. (Tracy) Braxton and Derek R. (Celeste) Braxton, all of San Antonio, TX; nine great-grandchildren, Geoffery (Tiersha) Royal, Christopher Spinner, Jayden Spinner, all of Lynchburg, VA, Kyle P. Jones, of Lexington, KY, Brooklyn, Anthony, Izaiah, Jeremiah, and Aliya Braxton, all of San Antonio, TX; and two great-great grandchildren, Tiana and Geofferson Royal all of Lynchburg, VA.
Nancy is also survived by a loving sister, Inez Lee of Lynchburg, VA; four sisters-in-law, Nancy J. Wood, Laura Royal, Earner Royal, Geraldine Wood, all of Lynchburg, VA, Mildred Wood of Lynwood, CA, life-long devoted sister/friends, Anna Gilbert of Richmond, VA, Evelyn Andrews, Isabelle Gentry, Marion Barksdale, all of Lynchburg VA, and a host of loving nieces and nephews, family, and friends.
Nancy was a loving, giving, and caring woman of God who unconditionally loved her family, church, and friends.
Celebration of Life services for Nancy Elizabeth Wood Royal will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 5517 Pleasant Valley Road, Lynchburg. Pastor Carlton Jackson, Jr., eulogist; Rev. Alvin Scott, assisting. Family members will assemble at the church at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please remember the American Cancer Society.
