Nancy Garrison Gunter
Nancy Garrison Gunter of Lynchburg; died Tuesday, April 19, 2011 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Born September 6, 1944, in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Clarence H. Garrison and Elizabeth Bondurant Garrison.
Nancy was the beloved wife of Fred M. Gunter, her high school sweetheart whom she married in 1961. They shared a loving, dedicated and happy 50 years together.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her children, Pam Gunter of Lynchburg, and Mark Gunter of Guyton, GA; two grandchildren; Matthew and Maci Gunter; a sister Becky Abbott and her husband Tommy of Lynchburg, a sister-in-law, Lois Tyree and her husband Ed of Rustburg, two nieces, Kim Wall and Kim Mays; two nephews, Eddie Tyree and Gary Abbott and their families.
She was preceded in death by an infant grandson; Chad Gunter.
She enjoyed a special relationship with many friends as well as children who thought of her as their grandmother. She cherished the times they shared.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Cecilia MacCallum for her compassionate care and love for Nancy, as well as the entire staff of the Alan B. Pearson Cancer Center. They also wish to thank the nurses, CNA\"™s and staff of the 4th floor oncology unit at LGH for their care and friendship.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Dr., Lynchburg, VA.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23rd at Tharp Funeral Home with the Reverend Wayne Draughn officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
