Nancy Kathryn Legard Greer

Nancy Kathryn Legard Greer, 89, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Bedford County Nursing Home. She was born on June 26, 1933, in Abingdon, VA. A daughter of the late Samuel C. Legard and Mamie Mabel Wolfenbarger Legard. In addition to her parents Nancy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Rev. James Edward “Ed” Greer and two brothers, Samuel C. Legard, Jr and Dr. Rector Legard.
Nancy was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to so many. Her love for her family was so evident, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and going to church events. A beloved teacher of piano and organ music. She was also a Register Nurse. Her hobbies consisted of bird watching, knitting, needlepoint, working with her hands and singing in the Senior Choir at Bedford Baptist Church. Nancy also enjoyed reading especially her Bible. She was always interested in what her family was doing and often times would ask her family, “what’s new”. She was loved dearly and will be missed by all that knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are her two children, David E. Greer and his wife, Crystal and Kathy G. Saunders and her husband, A.D.; three grandchildren, Justin E. Greer and his wife, Jennifer, Tiffanie N. Ashmore and her husband, Bryce and Brad D. Saunders and his wife, Kara; eight great-grandchildren, Jaden, Jaren and Jaxen Greer, Lillia, Ella and Vivian Ashmore and Opal Saunders and baby sister on the way; one sister in law, Dorothy Legard.
A graveside service and celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at 11:00 am Friday, April 7, 2023 at Quaker Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Michael Khol officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00pm on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford. For those wishing to make memorial contributions in Nancy’s memory please consider the Alzheimer’s Association. Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford is assisting the family.
