Nancy Lee Gallaher Leftwich, 94, of Madison Heights, VA, died Wednesday, January 25, 2017. She was the wife of William Albert Leftwich for 12 years.
Born Sunday, September 17, 1922 in Bedford, Nancy was a daughter of the late C. Raymond Cole and the late Florence Epperly Cole.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 50 years, Alfred N. Gallaher, and a daughter, Edith Ann Gallaher.
In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by three children, Sue Lee Wax and her husband, Marvin, of Boca Raton, FL, Thomas Gallaher and his wife, Susan, of Fulks Run, and David Gallaher, of Lynchburg, four step children, Marcia Sutler and her husband, W.B., of Bedford, Jim Leftwich and his wife, Sue, of Roanoke, Diane Gryctko, and her husband, Michael, of Madison Heights, and Rebecca Leftwich, of Portland, OR, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a brother, Stephen Cole and his wife Rosemary, of Blacksburg, VA.
Nancy graduated from Madison College in 1943. Nancy was a music teacher. She was active in her church and sang in the choir at Bethany UMC. She was also an active member of the Eastern Star and the Forest Garden Club. She loved nature, especially birds. She helped in the restoration of Poplar Forest.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM on Friday, January 27, 2017, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory Lynchburg with the Rev. Dr. H.O. “Tom” Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Forest, VA.
