Nancy Lee Goggin Cushwa

Nancy Lee Goggin Cushwa, 82, of Lynchburg, died Friday, March 27, 2015.

Born Wednesday, February 08, 1933 in Lynchburg, Nancy was the daughter of the late Harry Thomas Goggin and the late Nannie Lee Davis Goggin.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by a sister Jean Goggin Payne.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles Terry Cushwa, her children: Roger Cushwa and his wife, Robin, William Cushwa and his wife, Susan and Terri Swisher and her husband, Todd, six grandchildren: Daniel, Cathryn, Nancy, Brooke, Matt, and Hayden; a brother in-law Jerry Payne, two nieces: Jerri Ann Payne and Valerie Payne Compass; and her fiercely loyal feline companion/caregiver CoCo.

Nancy was a devoted wife, mother and faithful friend. She was a long time member of Beulah Baptist Church and was dedicated to the nursing home ministry. Nancy and Charles served the area nursing homes together for over thirty years. Her bible studies and ministry will be greatly missed at PACE, Runk & Pratt, Wesley Apartments, Lynchburg Rehabilitation, Avante and her much loved Valley View Retirement Community. Nancy was also a strong believer and supporter in the mission of the Boys and Girls Club and had deep admiration for Mark Sheehan and his staff.

A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2015, at Beulah Baptist Church. A private celebration of Nancy’s life will held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lynchburg, 1101 Madison Street, Lynchburg, 24504. In addition please consider visiting a local nursing home and making a resident’s day special.

A special thanks to Dr. Carl Moore, her cardiologist; Jackie, her nurse from Seven Hills Home Health; the 911 dispatcher who guided me until the medical response team and the Lynchburg Police arrived. A job well done by all with professionalism and dignity.
