Nancy Lee Parker Stanley, 87, of Bedford died Sunday, February 27, 2022.
Born August 27, 1934, in Bedford, she was the daughter of the late John Lee Stanley and the late Callie Ellis Stanley.
She was married twice: first to Morris Parker and later to Thomas B. Stanley, Jr.
Nancy is survived by her two sons: Malcolm L. Parker and his wife, Ann, and Douglas G. Parker and his wife, Sheryl; eight grandchildren: Malcolm T. Parker, Brian M. Parker and his wife, Laura, Nicholas T. Parker, Melissa P. Beatty and her husband, Jim, William C. Edwards, Dana M. Evans and her husband, Brian, Neal E. Parker, and Emily K. Parker; and five great grandchildren: Callie, Chase, Hannah, Kayla, and Chanelle, with a sixth, Skylar, due in June. Nancy is also survived by her half-sister, Maxine Mattox, and half-brother, Hildrey Gibbs.
A long time member of Timber Ridge Baptist Church, Nancy grew up in rural Bedford County during the Great Depression. Her early childhood was tough though it taught her valuable life lessons. She learned early to value her home and family, to protect what was hers, and that hard work earns not only money, but respect. She passed these values on to her sons and to the many children she cared for over the years.
Ever enterprising, she developed quite a business cleaning for friends and connections and keeping children. She always worked around when her family needed her, not wanting to miss time with them. And most of all, Nancy enjoyed spending time with her loved ones.
She loved nothing better than to cook for her family, and her grandchildren favored her corn pudding and macaroni and cheese over all others. When the children and grandchildren would visit, she often surprised them with gifts of her ceramics or the latest fabulous deal she had found–for Nancy loved a bargain!
The family would especially like to thank Nancy’s caregivers of the past few years: Valerie Agee, Carol Creasy, Tammey Detamore, Shawnee Hinkle, Pam Parker, the staff of Bedford County Nursing Home and the staff of Centra Hospice—Bedford.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 4, 2022, from 6-8 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held Saturday, March 5, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Timber Ridge Baptist Church with Pastor Phil Kelley and Pastor Gary Sims officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to either Centra Hospice—Bedford or Timber Ridge Baptist Church.
Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford is assisting the family.
