NANCY’S STORY
Nancy Marie Trahey passed away on December 23, 2024 in Lynchburg, VA. Her memory will be cherished by her family and friends.
Nancy was born on January 31, 1941 in Las Vegas, NM to her parents John Paul Trahey and Constance Chavez Trahey. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Long Beach, CA. There Nancy attended St. Anthony’s High School where she excelled scholastically. Upon graduation, she was awarded a four year scholarship to Immaculate Heart College graduating in 1962 with a B.S. Degree in Chemistry.
Nancy’s career began immediately as a chemist with Rockwell International Atomic Division; followed by being a chemist and manager with the New Brunswick Laboratory; the Department of Energy Argonne Laboratory; and the National Institute of Standards and Technology U.S. Department of Commerce.
Nancy received numerous awards from her association with professional organizations including the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Chemical Society, the American Nuclear Society and the Standards Engineering Society. Nancy was listed as a noteworthy chemist by Marquis Who’s Who of American Women.
Nancy was married for 26 years to Dr. Michael G. Bale ( deceased ), but was not able to have children. Her remaining family is her brother John Howard Trahey of St. George, UT and her nephew John David Trahey of Tucson, AZ.
Nancy spent much of her free time with Michael building and operating model steam trains and raising 3 cats. She loved dogs especially Dachshunds.
Nancy’s remains were interred in her parents gravesite at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach, CA
