Nancy Wall Warren

Nancy Wall Warren, of Lynchburg, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, December 28, 2011. She was the wife of Dr. Holland Douglas Warren for 56 years.

Born Thursday, August 01, 1929 in Elkin, NC, Nancy was a daughter of the late Hattie Key Wall and Guthrie Bryan Wall.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Alan Warren, and three brothers, Henry, Frank, and Charles Wall.

In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by two daughters: Jill J. Warren, of Roanoke, VA, and Karen K. Warren and her husband, Tony L. Wade, of Lynchburg; two grandchildren: Nikolas Warren and Olivia Wade, of Lynchburg; a sister: Helen Lenora Wall, of Wilkesboro, NC; and a special sister in-law: Frances Warren, of Clemmons, NC.

Nancy and Holland met in 1953, while Holland was in the Navy and were married in 1955. After Holland left the Navy he enrolled in College at Wake Forest. Nancy worked to support the family during this time and later while he received his Masters and PhD from UVA. Nancy loved people, never meeting a stranger. Through the years Nancy showed her love for others in many ways. She was a nursery and preschool worker, and Chairman of the Benevolence Committee at Beulah Baptist Church, even taking food to homes where people were unable to come to the church. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels as a driver and volunteered for over ten years in the surgical waiting area of Lynchburg General Hospital. She served for 10 years as an election official at the city library voting precinct. Nancy also collected money for the American Heart Association. Her caring and compassionate spirit touched many lives.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Nancy's life will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 01, 2012 in Beulah Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Seay, and the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton officiating. Interment will be at 1:00 PM, Monday, January 2, 2012 in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
