Neal Donald Thompson, 93, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2016 peacefully in his sleep at his residence in Lynchburg, VA. He was a World War II Veteran who retired from the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL.
He was devoted to his church, and family was the center of his life. He loved to watch and cheer for Alabama football. He enjoyed camping adventures with his wife, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by two of his brothers, Bobby Thompson and Frank Thompson. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Suzanne Thompson Burger Crawford of Bedford, VA.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Naomi Frances Allen. He is also survived by his brother, Whitney Thompson of Humboldt, TN, two granddaughters, Melinda Cohan of Roanoke, VA and Stephanie Burger of Asheville, NC, and eight nieces and nephews, Andrew Thompson, Mary Ruth Colvin, Rickey Thompson, Grace Brewer, Dawn Mulrooney, Robert Thompson, Mark Thompson and Katherine Thompson.
The family would like to thank the special care givers at Runk & Pratt and Seven Hills Hospice.
A celebration of life will be held at 11am, Monday, December 12, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home, 320 N Bridge St, Bedford, VA 24523. Reverend Bill Moore will officiate. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Bedford, VA. A Soup and Sandwich gathering will immediately follow at Bedford Christian Church. Tharp Funeral Home in Bedford is handling the arrangements.
