Nell Glenn Holt, 96, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 22, 2019 at Westminster Canterbury.
Nell was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky to the late Wade and Anne Glenn. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Paul Glenn and Charles Glenn, as well as her niece Jane Glenn. Nell was fortunate to have loved three amazing men who also precede her in death; Lee Johnson, Cassel Duval Holt, and Max Eckert. Additionally, three stepsons, Duval, Robert, and Tad Holt have gone on before her. Nell is survived by her sisters-in-law, Sabine Glenn, and Sharon Glenn, her stepdaughter, Nancy McWane and her stepdaughters-in-law, Peggy, Lou, and Anne Holt, her nephews, Paul and Todd Glenn, Wade, Steve, and Mark Glenn and their families. Nell is also survived by 6 great nieces and nephews, 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 18 great great grandchildren and her longtime companion, Peggy Anderson.
Nell spent much time with her Grandparents in “Hoptown”, Kentucky. She married her first husband, Lee Johnson, who was killed in WW2. She became a designer at the Rutherford Garment Company, where she met her second husband, Jack Holt. She gained four stepchildren, and would go on to enjoy a very large and loving step family. After Jack’s passing, Nell became a writer for Veranda magazine, where she would meet and fell in love with photographer Max Eckert. Max and Nell traveled the world, and split their time between Palm Desert, CA and Lynchburg, VA, before finally settling at Nell’s long time home in Lynchburg. Nell was an honorary member of the Hillside Garden Club where she was involved in many projects.
Nell will be remembered for the amazing stories she told of her adventurous life, taking her great grandchildren on tractor rides around her home, and never knowing a stranger. Nell loved a good meal and a good wine. She was a kind and generous person, and full of life until the end.
Her family would like to thank all of the caregivers at Westminster Canterbury for their care of Nell, and her family, over the last several years.
