Nellie Obedience Daniel Skinner of Lynchburg passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011. She was the wife of the late Frank Russell Skinner.
Mrs. Skinner was born Tuesday, June 5, 1923, in Campbell County, VA, a daughter of the late Robert Daniel and Elma Driskill Daniel. She was retired from Lynchburg City Schools where her love of children and cooking was evident each day she served in the cafeteria. She was devoted to her God and her church, Beulah Baptist. She loved country music and was delighted that Phil Vassar made it big. She never met a stranger and was loving, generous and giving to everyone she knew. That love was returned full-circle to her as people that had received her kind-heartedness always called to check on her in her later years. She was proud of her family, put them before all else and was a fabulous mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Hutchinson and husband, Larry, Lynchburg, and Phyllis Brewster and husband, Richard, Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Victoria Marie Brewster, Midland, Jennifer Hutchinson Kelley, Lynchburg, and Frank William Hutchinson, Lynchburg; and her great grandchildren, Wyatt Russell Kelley, Altavista, and River Greyson Hutchinson, Lynchburg.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 15 brothers and sisters and a grandson, Brent Alan Hutchinson.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, January 23, 2011, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Nellie's life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 24, 2011, in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home with Dr. J. Gordon Henry officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.
