Nellie Lee Massie Arrington, 91, of Bedford, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011 at Oakwood Manor. Born in Bedford County on July 27, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Herman Massie and Annie Layne Massie. In addition to her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Walter James Arrington, Jr.; a sister, Homie Keesee; and three brothers, Jake, Harry and Walter Massie.
During WWII, Nellie worked as a chemical warfare services inspector in Ohio. Nellie was a member of the Bedford Baptist Church and for many years worked in the women\"™s department at the Leggetts Store in Bedford.
She is survived by a son, Sandy James Arrington; a daughter, Bonnie A. Richards and her husband Roger of Catawba; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucy Pinion of Bedford; two brothers, Herman Massie and his wife, Pauline of Bedford and Robert Massie and his wife, Cleo of Bedford, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Oakwood Manor for their loving care.
A graveside service will be held at 11AM, Wednesday, February 16, 2011 in Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. David L. Henderson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the Tharp Funeral Home.
