Nelton Otis Cumbie, 91, of Monroe, died Wednesday, October 4, 2017. He was the husband of Mary Carter Cumbie for 64 years.
Nelton was born in Lynchburg, on September 25, 1926 a son of the late David Wesley Cumbie and Pearlie Green Dudley Cumbie. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Monroe. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp during World War II, then went on to serve as Military Police in the United States Army and retired from Southern Amusement Company.
In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by, his daughter, Terri Cumbie Johnson and her husband Jeff ; a sister Linda Sink; two grandsons, Eric David Johnson and wife Sarah and Ryan Carter Johnson and his wife Erica; two- great grandchildren, Addison Elizabeth Johnson and Emerson Jane Johnson.
Nelton was predeceased, by his brother Memphis Cumbie and his sisters Alpha Monroe, Marrian Price, and Jetty Wright.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00p.m on October 14, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Monroe, with Pastor Glynn Coleman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior.
