Newton Alexander “Pete” Cofflin

Newton Alexander “Pete” Cofflin, of Forest, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 3, 2019. He was the husband of Betty S. Cofflin for 57 years.
Pete was born on April 3, 1937 in Amherst County, Va., the youngest son of the late Lewis Gordon Cofflin and the late Nettie Roberts Cofflin.
Pete served our great nation as a member of the United States Navy. He retired from Babcock and Wilcox after 33 years of service. After retiring from B&W he then became a realtor in the Central Virginia area.
Along with his wife, Betty, Pete is survived by his sister Ruby Gibson of Lynchburg; and many nieces, nephews, and relatives. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers: Howard, Cecil, Woodrow, Dr. Lewis, Eugene, and Richard “Buck” Cofflin; and three sisters: Gertrude Cofflin, Ollie Mae Saunders, and Louise Hall.
A celebration of Pete’s life will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Heritage Baptist Church at 11:30 a.m. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Virginia Memorial Park in Forest, Va.
