Nolan Clay Dowdy, Jr., 87, passed away in Lynchburg, VA on April 28, 2013. A son of the late Nolan C. Dowdy, Sr. and Myrtle Clements Dowdy, he was born December 6, 1925 in Lynchburg, VA. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Carlettie Layne Dowdy.
Nolan retired from the Lynchburg Gas Company in 1986 after 34 years. He was an active member of Euclid Christian Church where he served as Superintendent of Sunday School for 65 years and a deacon. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a resident of Westminster-Canterbury.
Nolan is survived by his son Rev. Roger Clay Dowdy and wife Janie of Richmond and granddaughter, Kristen Dowdy Hart of Richmond. Also surviving is his sister Laura Anne Howard of Lynchburg. He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene (Mike) Boyd Dowdy.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30am on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Euclid Christian Church. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

A service of Celebration of Life for Nolan Dowdy will be held at Westminster-Canterbury in Lynchburg, for the W-C residential community Sunday, May 5, at 4:00pm in the Chapel.
