Norma Ruth Gallion’s 89 year old heart is whole again after she joined her loving husband in heaven on September 14, 2023, 3 1/2 months after he left early to set up their new home filled with rose lilies, fresh peaches, and rice with blueberries for breakfast. She will arrange her lilies daily with joy and decorate their new home with an abundance of blue. Norma is survived by her sons Mark and Keith, by her four granddaughters Sydney, Laurel, Dana, and Nora, and by her devoted Pomeranian Dutches and large black cat Sammy.
Norma was born on Sept 9, 1934 in Roanoke, VA to Grace and Richard Crowder. Her older sister Jean Phyllis passed away shortly after Lew.
Norma was married in Roanoke to Walter Lewis “Lew” Gallion in 1959 two days after Lew graduated from VPI, and they immediately started a new life in Lynchburg where they would stay married for 64 years. Norma found her joy as a mother, home maker, decorator, and friend to all who would share conversation with her no matter where she was. She was an unpaid Dear Abby, infinitely curious about the lives of those around her, lovingly listening and giving advice. She could hold up a line talking to the checkout person for a frustratingly long time to those behind her. Above all she loved love and she found it with her husband.
After retirement the empty nesters upsized to their dream home on Spring Lake where she and her husband became Mr. And Mrs. G. to the neighborhood children and parents. She became like a grandmother to her closest neighbor’s children who lovingly made her a part of their family. To honor Norma’s wishes there will be no funeral service.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
