Norman Edward MacDonald, III, 85, of Forest, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 with his beloved wife of 36 years, Eleanore Tangrady MacDonald, by his side.
Norman served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1963. He had a long and successful career in the printing industry which he passed on to his son. He loved his family and grandchildren. He listened to jazz, big band, and Celtic music. He was a devoted Philadelphia Eagles fan. He had an affinity for cars, Tom Clancy novels, John Wayne movies, and was a passionate student of history and the Civil War.
Along with his wife he is survived by his children Thomas MacDonald and his wife, Joëlle Bochner, of Springfield N. J. and Kathleen MacDonald Hamilton and her husband Peter, of Englewood, Colo.; stepchildren Ellen Toomey of Stratford, N.J., William Toomey of Enfield, Conn., and James Toomey of Suffield, Conn.; his grandchildren Caitlin MacDonald Conrad and her husband, Dallas, of Philadelphia, Pa., Mary Rose MacDonald of Montclair, N.J., Liam Hamilton of Ft. Worth, Texas, Grace Hamilton of Englewood, Colo., and Aidan Hamilton of Englewood, Colo.; his sister Patricia Straub of Bear, Del.; and his sister-in-law Wendy MacDonald of Chocowinity, N.C.
The family will receive friends Sunday, July 24, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Bud’s life will be held on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at 12 noon at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. Interment will take place at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia at a later date.
