Norman Franklin Ottinger

Norman Franklin Ottinger, 81, of Lynchburg, departed this life on Saturday, July 20, 2013 to be with his Savior. He is preceded in death by his wife of over 49 years, Helen Marie Carwile Ottinger.

Born April 20, 1932 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late David P. (Pop) and Evelyn P. Ottinger. Norman is also preceded in death by 3 brothers: Albert C. Ottinger of Warm Springs, VA., Milton E. Ottinger of Port St. Lucie, FL, and John A. Ottinger of Hampton, VA.

He is survived by 4 children: Rose May and her husband, Daniel, of Lynchburg, VA, Sylvia Fields and her husband, David, of Falkville, AL, Norman E. Ottinger and his wife, Laura, of Monroe, VA and Charles S. Ottinger of Big Island, VA; 2 brothers, David P. Ottinger, Jr., of Box Canyon, CA and James F. Ottinger of Huddleston, VA, 5 grandchildren: Tracy Wilkerson, Bryan Ottinger, Justin & Jeremy Fields and Ashley Tomlin, 4 great-grandchildren and a very special friend, Gail DeNoon.

Norman was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was also an active member of the volunteer auxiliary for the Lynchburg General Hospital for over 17 years and has given 5,242 hours of service to the patients, visitors and staff of the hospital.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 12:00 noon in Fort Hill Memorial Park at the Garden of Peace Mausoleum conducted by Bishop Robert L. Halpin.

The family will receive friends July 22, 2013, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
