Ojars “O.J.” Misjuns, 70, of Lynchburg, Va., died Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg.  O.J. was born October 4, 1947, in Oldenburg, W. Germany, a son of Latvian refugees, Stanislaus “Stanley” Misjuns and the late Irma Misjuns.

The family immigrated to the United States in 1951 and settled in Philadelphia, Pa.  O.J. attended Lincoln High School and Drexel University in Philadelphia, and served on the Philadelphia Police Dept. from 1968-1975, where he earned a prestigious assignment to the Stakeout Unit, receiving an Award for Valor for “heroism in the line of duty.”  He left the PPD to join his father in construction, later becoming president of SMI Construction, Inc.  For 20 years he was an accomplished builder of retail stores, servicing the Atlantic Coast and the Midwest.  He served on the school board of Plumstead Christian School, the Zoning Board of Upper Makefield Township, Pa., and held various leadership positions in men’s ministry at several local churches.  In 1996, the family relocated to Lynchburg, Va. where O.J. worked for Coleman-Adams Construction, Inc.  Years later he pursued a career in real estate and he was the founding broker/manager of Owens & Company’s Lynchburg office, which later became Long & Foster.  In 2013, he joined Century 21 ALL-SERVICE, continuing his 12-year partnership with his oldest son, Mike.   O.J. was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church and an active supporter of Liberty University athletics.

In addition to his loving wife Susan of 46 years, O.J. is survived by his father Stanley of Lynchburg, and his sons, Michael Misjuns and wife, Lisa, of Forest, Va.; Matthew Misjuns of Forest, Va.; Martin Misjuns and wife, Melinda, of Lynchburg; six grandchildren, Morgan, Luke, Elizabeth “Libbie”, Blake, Brody and Maxwell; brother, Olafs Gaibiselis and wife, Meg, of Lansdale, Pa., and brother-in-law Jim Chambers and wife, Marian, of Holland, Pa.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday January 19, 2018, at Thomas Road Baptist Church Pate Chapel conducted by Rev. Jonathan Falwell, with private interment to follow at Virginia Memorial Park in Goode, Va.  The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2018, at Tharp Funeral Home on Breezewood Dr. in Lynchburg, Va.
