Oliver Charles "Bud" Newcomb, Jr.

July 1, 1939 — January 28, 2021

Oliver “Bud” Charles Newcomb, Jr., age 81, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2021. Born in Albany County, NY, on July 1, 1939, he was the son of the late Oliver Charles Newcomb, Sr. and the late Mary Agnes VanAmburgh.

A devoted family man, we are confident that today Bud is rejoicing in Heaven, reunited with his best friend and wife, Dottie, of 57 years. No one brought him greater joy. Strong in his faith, Bud devoted over 30 years to teaching adult Sunday School classes weekly. Every Saturday night, he could be found bent over a Bible, typing out his lesson plans for the following morning. He leaves this legacy of faith to all that knew him. His second passion in life was building into the next generations. Whether it was through youth athletics or on a quiet lake, Bud cherished his time with both his children and grandchildren. For more than two decades, Bud ran and coached the youth football and wrestling programs in his hometown of Niskayuna, New York.  Though coaching his children in sports was certainly a source of pride, Bud enjoyed, even more, spending time on a lake with his kids, fishing pole in hands.  He passed on his love of the outdoors to many of his children and grandchildren.

Bud leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughter, Judith Newcomb McDonald (Tim) of Danville, VA; his sons, Kenneth Newcomb (Joyce) of Middletown, DE; Charles Newcomb (Lisa) of Loudenville, NY; James Newcomb of Schenectady, NY; Daniel Newcomb (Beth) of Rocky Mount, NC; and David Newcomb (Lisa) of Downingtown, PA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael (Dana), Scott (Cappie), Jesse (Alyssa), Alexandra, Caroline, Jacob (Catherine), Benjamin, William, Jack, Ashlyn, Justin, and Camryn Newcomb; Megan Yeo (Jonathan) and Lauren McDonald; and five great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Maeve, Lucas and Abel Newcomb and Oliver Yeo.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
