Opal Lane Hurst, formally of Lynchburg, departed this life on Friday, May 4, 2012 in Oak Ridge, TN. She was the wife of R.V. Hurst for 62 years. Born November 29, 1921 in Sevierville, TN, she was the daughter of the late John L. Lane and the late Ida Hixon Lane.
Opal is survived by her son Michael W. Hurst and his wife Rita of Brighton, CO; and her brother Newell Lane and sisters Johnnie Marie Simpson and Patricia Blackmore. She was preceded in death by her husband R. V., a son Gregory L. Hurst, and brothers Jack and Clifton Lane.
Mrs. Hurst was a member of Peakland United Methodist Church for fifty years; and reveled in all aspects of her church life, teaching Sunday School, and working on behalf of numerous community outreach programs.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Wednesday May 9, 2012, at Peakland United Methodist Church, 4434 Boonsboro Road, Lynchburg, VA 24503. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Edwin Clever officiating. Burial will follow in Virginia Memorial Park, Forest.
