Opal White Williams, 93, of Lynchburg, VA, died at home on Sunday, September 10, 2017, following a lengthy illness. She and her late husband, Braston Lee Williams, were married for 53 years.
Born January 18, 1924 in Dickenson County, VA, Opal was a daughter of the late William Albert White and the late Sylvia Deel White.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Williams Boyers, of Lynchburg; a grandson, Daniel E. Boyers, his wife Doris, and their five little daughters, Anna, Sophia, Danielle, Miriam, and Emily; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Williams, of Morgantown, WV; a sister, Edra Owens, of Haysi, VA; and a sister-in-law, Rona Newberry of Concord, NC.
In addition to her husband and her parents, Opal was preceded in death by two brothers, five sisters, her only son, Gary Michael Williams, and her only granddaughter, Amy Lee Boyers.
Opal was an intelligent, strong, and independent woman. By the time she was 17 years old, she had graduated from high school, completed a two-year program at a business college in Bluefield, WV, and accepted a position as one of the first female clerical workers in a West Virginia coal mining company. Opal dedicated more than 25 years of her life to the business world as a highly competent secretary whose opinions were valued and frequently sought after by colleagues and management alike. However, the things in life which brought her the most joy were gardening, cooking and baking for her family, assisting her church, and being the best grandma and great-grandma any child could ever ask for.
