On the early morning of January 11, 2024, God called our loved one home to rest. Ora Lilly
Jackson Elliott was born on January 17, 1930. She was the youngest child born to the late
Andrew T. and Carrie Hamlett Jackson. In addition to her late parents, she was preceded in
death by her husband Carroll J. Elliott, brothers Bernard K. Jackson, Kelly L. Jackson and sister
Girlie C. Rice.
Ora accepted Christ at an early age and joined Green Spring Baptist Church in Brookneal, VA.
She later joined Fifth Street Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA. She attended Campbell County
Public Schools and the Virginia State School for the Deaf and Blind in Newport News, VA.
Ora had a love for helping people and was known for sharing meals, helping the sick and
lending a listening ear. She provided child care for many children over the years. She also had
a unique sense of humor.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three children, Alvin D. Elliott (Barbara), Carol Janice
Garland (John) and Faye E. James (Larry); two nieces whom she raised, Pamela R. Calloway
(Floyd), and Tommizene Rice. In addition, she is survived by five grandchildren; Melinda
Garland, Johnathan Garland, Jessica Manning (Jarion), Larry “Tre” James III, Maya Elliott; three
great grandchildren; Gabrielle Garland, Jarion Manning II, and Aiva Manning and an abundance
of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. We also acknowledge special friends, Thomas Jones,
Teresa Hicks, Avis Woodfin, Clarice Hicks and Daisy Booth.
Her life was full, her spirit was whole and she will truly be missed.
Safely Home
I’m home in Heaven, dear ones; oh, so happy and so bright, there is perfect joy and beauty in
this everlasting light. All the pain and grief is over, every restless tossing passed. I’m now at
peace forever, safely home in Heaven at last.
A celebration of her life will be held at Fifth Street Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 11:00AM, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at the Forest Hill Burial Park.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
