Sonny passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
He was born May 26, 1951, in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Orren R. Hackworth, Jr and the late Jean Burns Hackworth.
Sonny was proud to be a Marine, serving in the Marine Reserves from 1971-1977. He was employed as a driver for Service Trucking.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Patti Testerman, and a grandson, Dakota Hackworth.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife of 42 years, Jo Ann, a son Allen Hackworth (Lauren) of Lynchburg, a daughter, Andrea Marsey (Andy) of Madison Heights, his grandchildren, Cody and Kezli Hackworth, two brothers: Darrel Hackworth of Rustburg, and Kerry Hackworth of Lynchburg, his sister Donna Bobbitt of Rustburg, and his father- and mother-in-law, Joe and Helen Doss of Altavista.
A celebration of Sonny’s life will be held Saturday, November 1, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Altavista Church of Christ with Larry Evans and Carlton Gunter officiating. There will be a time of fellowship for family and friends immediately following the service.
