Orris Ray Turner, 64, of Lynchburg died December 12. 2011. He is survived by his mother, Louise Jones Turner, step-mother, Naomi Turner, a sister, Lisa T. Ford and her fiancée, Hampton Puckette, Jr., a nephew, Hampton Puckette III, a niece, Jennifer Ford and fiancée Jeff, and her daughter Chelsea of Petersburg, a brother, Kenneth L. Turner and his wife Ann, their children, Clay, Tylden, and Catherine of Rolesville, NC, a special aunt Liz (Elizabeth Pierce), a cousin Edwin R. Pearce, and a special pet named \"Sonny\". He was preceded in death by a special uncle Benjamin Booker Jones. Mr. Turner was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and sang in the Junior and Adult Choir.
His career as a floral designer started with Doyle Florists part-time after school classes. His full-time employment was with Arthur\"™s Flower Cart for 20 years until his dialysis disease prevented his further career. He loved working with Joanne Arthur and staff. In his career years he decorated several church alters in Lynchburg for Sundays and holidays.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. tonight Thursday December 15, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.
A Celebration of Ray\"™s Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday December 16, 2011 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg with the Rev. Dennis Roberts officiating. Interment will be at Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family extends gratitude to all doctors, nurses, attendants, and friends who helped Mr. Turner during his illness.
