Otis Watkins Mayberry
Otis \"Sonny\" Watkins Mayberry, 73, of Lynchburg died Wednesday January 2, 2013. He was the devoted husband of Sarah H. Mayberry.
Sonny was born November 11, 1939 in Campbell County a son of the late Otis B. Mayberry and the late Lena Godsey Mayberry. Sonny served in the U.S. Navy and was a skilled construction worker by trade. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed camping and the outdoors.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his two children: Laura Helms of Madison Heights and Brent Helms of Smith Mtn. Lake, three grandchildren: Cody-Mark Elliott, Cassidy Morgan Elliott, and Keegan Wayne Gilbert, and one great-grandson Anthony Mark Elliott, three sisters: Helen Adamson, Dorothy Williams, and Margaret Layne all of Lynchburg, a special nephew Bobby Johnson and wife Gurley of Lynchburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
A Celebration of Sonny\"™s Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday January 6, 2013 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg with the Rev. Sue Keen officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
