Otis G. Wright

Otis G. Wright, 91, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024 at the Summit Health & Rehabilitation Center after having been a beloved resident for several years.

Otis was a man with a quick smile and a joke to share. He had worked for Lynchburg Detention Center for 29 years and sold men’s clothing at the Lynchburg Jobbing House.

Otis had a strong Christian faith and truly exemplified what it means to have the Word of God hidden within your heart. Otis was full of joy as he shared his faith and was always happy sit at his keyboard beautifully playing any requested song by ear.

Otis was born April 21, 1933, and grew up in the Fairview Heights area of Lynchburg, a son of the late Franklin Wright and the late Mary Harris Wright. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jettie, and his five siblings, Wilson, James, Walter, Louise, and Claude. He is survived by his son, Shannon Wright and wife, Michelle.

A man of strong faith, Otis had attended Fairview Christian Church during his youth before becoming a founding member of Thomas Road Baptist Church alongside his good friend, the late Dr. Jerry Falwell, Sr.

Otis knew no stranger and was a friend to any who met him. He will be forever missed. Those who love Otis wish to thank the Summit for their years of service to him, especially Kristen Harbin, Bill Robertson, Ebony Alexander, Ken Patterson and Wanda Romero who truly loved him like a family member. Many thanks to Centra Hospice for their care towards the end of Otis’s life.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Tharp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Falwell officiating.
