Page Nelson Gannaway Carrington, 88, departed this life March 8, 2011, at Westminster-Canterbury where she had been a resident for 7 years.

Born in Lynchburg on May 29, 1922, she was the daughter of the late John Edward Gannaway, Jr. and Mary Nelson Gannaway.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick William Carrington Jr. in 1978.

She is survived by her only son, Frederick William Carrington III (Rick) and daughter-in-law Diane Stewart Carrington, loving grandchildren, Paul William Carrington, John Stewart Carrington and Leigh Ambler Carrington all of Lynchburg; a sister, Isobel Gannaway Gregson of New Orleans, LA , niece,  Page Nelson Gregson Cole, of Winston-Salem, NC, and nephew, John Randolph Gregson II of New Orleans, LA, and special extended family, Susan Stewart Dupuis and Mrs. Bonnie Stewart.

Page graduated from E. C. Glass High School and St. Mary's College in Raleigh, NC.

She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, past member of the Junior League of Lynchburg, DAR, DAC, the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence and The Page Nelson Society. She also was a volunteer at Virginia Baptist Hospital.

She grew up on Washington Street on Diamond Hill.  Her father owned John E. Gannaway Hardware Store on Main Street and he was one of the original members of Oakwood Country Club where she spent many happy years.

Page cherished her family, her friends, her church, and loved her "tomahtoes" and any beach.  She loved to share her knowledge of Lynchburg and was proud to be a Virginian.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, March 14th, 2011 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 605 Clay Street, with Bp. A. Heath Light, The Revs. Douglas Wigner and Todd Vie officiating with a reception following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Virginia Episcopal School, Westminster-Canterbury Fellowship Fund or the charity of your choice.
