Pamela Sue Hardy Kirkpatrick, 72, died Thursday, January 3rd at Lynchburg General Hospital. After her valiant battle with cancer that began in 2000, Pam endured years of dialysis in order to continue the fight. Her strong will to live, her expertise as a retired ICU nurse, her faith in God, and the love and support of her family and friends carried her through this 18 year struggle.
Pamela was born on July 3, 1946 in Evansville, IN to Elmer Roscoe and Rosemary Raymann Hardy. A move during her childhood to Atlanta, GA expanded her talent for dance, a passion she passed down to her daughter and granddaughters. Pamela graduated from Avondale High School and continued her education at Georgia State where she was an active member of the Alpha Phi sorority, a legacy she passed on to her daughter and eldest granddaughter. She went on to graduate from the Medical College of Georgia where she graduated with a BS in nursing as a Registered Nurse.
Pamela is survived by her two children Robert Kirkpatrick and his wife, Stacy, Karen Tanner and her husband, Trey; her five grandchildren Kyleigh, Kaitlyn, Talon, Connor, and Keaton; and her brother Richard and his wife, Arti.
Pam had an uncanny way of finding humor in the worst of times, making her an incredible nurse. Her boisterous laugh will be warmly remembered by her family and friends. Her home was always welcoming and her fridge was always open and full.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, January 7th from 6 p.m.-8.p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home at 220 Breezewood Dive, Lynchburg VA 24502. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 8th at 11 am at St. John’s Episcopal on 200 Boston Ave. Lynchburg, 24503. Interment to follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
