Patricia S. Fleming

September 15, 1941 — May 9, 2025

Patricia Fleming, a loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Born on September 15, 1941, in Martinsburg, West Virginia—a place she always considered home—Pat spent her early years rooted in the love of her family.

She later moved to Fairmont, West Virginia, where she attended Fairmont State College. There, she earned a degree in English and Business. During her college years, she was actively involved in campus life, serving as head majorette, being honored as Homecoming Princess, and joining the Tri Sigma sorority.

Pat began her career as an English teacher in Morgantown, WV., and later in Ambridge, PA., and was administrative assistant to the Vice President in the English Department in Harrisonburg, VA. Pat and her family later made their home in Lynchburg, Virginia, where she raised three children and continued her career as an English teacher at E.C. Glass High School and Dunbar Middle School.

In addition to teaching, Pat served as a headmistress at James River Day School and found great success in real estate. She was known for her energy, drive, and the pride she took in her work.

An avid runner, Pat also completed a marathon and regularly ran the Virginia Ten Miler. She enjoyed playing tennis and skiing, and had a deep love for sewing, knitting, pottery, cooking, and gardening. In time, her passion for knitting grew, and she delighted in knitting sweaters and blankets for her beloved grandchildren.

Pat is survived by her husband, William H. Fleming III; her sister, Maryanne Triplett (George); her children, Whitney Fleming, Kelly Dietz (Rich), and Harrison Hunt (Huston); and her beloved grandchildren, Hayden and Ashley Dietz, and Fleming, Liam, and Althea Hunt. Pat played a central role in her grandchildren’s upbringing, offering not only care and guidance but also a steady, loving presence that shaped their lives in countless meaningful ways.

Pat and Bill would have celebrated 62 years of marriage this August, a testament to their enduring love and commitment to one another.

Her legacy of warmth, spunk, and strength lives on in all who knew and loved her.

A celebration of her life will be held Sunday May 18th from 2-4 pm at Weissert Memorial Chapel (at Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg) with a visitation to immediately follow in the Commons.
