Patricia Downing Haynes

Patty Downing Haynes, born in Morristown, New Jersey to the late Wilbur and Elizabeth Downing, passed away surrounded by love. She is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, Garry Haynes.

Patty earned her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ, and began her career as a computer programmer. After several years in the field, she embraced her most cherished role—being a full-time mom to her four children.

A passionate animal lover, especially of large breed dogs, Patty co-founded Carolina Big Hearts Big Barks Rescue. Her tireless dedication and deep compassion earned her great respect within the dog rescue community.

Above all, Patty’s greatest joy was her family. She was a loving and proud mother to Ben, Lindsay (Cody), Zack, and Emma, and a doting grandmother to Cora, Deacon, and Callie. She is also survived by her beloved dog Zelda, grand dogs Rhea and Nala, and her reluctantly tolerated grand cat, Asher.

A memorial service to celebrate Patty’s life will be held at Tharp Funeral Home on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 1:00pm. In honor of her love for animals, well-behaved, trained dogs on a leash, are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Big Hearts Big Barks Foundation.
