Patrick “Pat” Earle Arwood passed away on January 31st, at The Summit.
Pat was born in Burlington, North Carolina on February 2, 1946, a son of the late Earle Stanley Arwood and Alice Juanita Perry Arwood. The family moved to Lynchburg in 1959, where he met the love of his life, Andrea Carter Wright.
Pat graduated from E.C. Glass High School in 1964 and continued his studies at the University of Virginia where he received his bachelor’s degree in 1968. Upon graduation he received his commission in the Navy.
He served during the Vietnam War as a fighter pilot aboard the U.S.S. Midway. He received the Silver Star for a MIG kill in 1972. After his service, Pat enjoyed golfing, sailing, and cycling.
Upon returning to Lynchburg in 2012, Pat enjoyed reuniting with many high school friends.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memory are, the love of his life; Andrea Carter Wright, sisters; Mary Arwood Hensley (Mike) and Pamela Arwood Kent; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg with a visitation held one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to either Patrick Henry Family Services located at 1621-B Enterprise Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24502, or Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation located at 1100 Commerce Street, Lynchburg, VA 24504.
