Patsy Marie Phillips Brown

Patsy Marie Phillips Brown, 80, of Forest died at her residence, October 7, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was born March 29, 1932 in Amherst County, the daughter of the late Charles Anthony Phillips and Mary Whitehead Phillips (Mallie). Patsy was the wife of Ervin Carlyle Brown for 62 years.

She was a 1949 graduate of Amherst High School (valedictorian); received a BA in music from Sweet Briar College in 1953 and a Masters of Education from Lynchburg College in 1982; and retired from Amherst County Schools after serving 21 years as a teacher and guidance counselor.

Patsy was a cherished member of Mountain View United Methodist Church where she enjoyed the fellowship and support of her bible study group. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved travel, gardening, decorating her home and spending quality time with her family. She had a special love of working with children as an elementary school counselor and volunteer tutor in the after school program at church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by: her children and their spouses, Jeff and Karen Brown, Jed and Cathie Brown, Todd and Jann Brown and Susan Brown Harvey and Brian Harvey; grandchildren, Matt, Jennifer, David, and Jason Brown, Diana Brown Weeks (and husband Rodney); her sister, Betty Phillips Lupton (and husband George); her devoted sisters-in-law, Shirley Franklin (and husband H.C.), Geraldine Bowles (and husband Gerald), Edna Hunt (and husband Billy), and Ella Hughes (and husband Ronnie); and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Robert Phillips.

The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, October 9th from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, and a memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 10th at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Steven Propst officiating. Both services will be held at Mountain View United Methodist Church, 1077 Viewpoint Lane, Forest, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a memorial contribution to Mountain View United Methodist Church, 1077 Viewpoint Lane, Forest, VA, the Alan B. Pearson Cancer Center, 1920 Atherholt Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501, or the American Cancer Society, 2050 Langhorne Road, Suite 201, Lynchburg, VA 24501.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to many friends and neighbors for the love and support provided during Patsy\"™s illness and to Dr. Cecilia MacCallum, the staffs at the Alan B. Pearson Cancer Center, the Oncology Unit at Lynchburg General, the Acute Rehab Unit at Virginia Baptist and Centra Hospice.
