Pastor Wheeler was a godly man, who loved his Lord and his family unconditionally and served his church parishioners faithfully for fifty years. His passion for building God’s Kingdom and encouraging everyone he talked with was contagious. His godly example will challenge us for the rest of our lives.
Pastor Paul Augustine Wheeler, 93, of Lynchburg died Monday, August 11, 2014 at Medical Care Center. He was the husband of Marie Cockerill Wheeler. He is preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Born March 10, 1921 in Mears Michigan, he was the son of the late John David Wheeler and Edith Pearl Holcomb Wheeler. Paul was a World War II Veteran, he was proud to have served in the US Navy. He was the minister of Lynchburg Wesleyan Church (Crosspoint). Paul preached the gospel throughout the world for 50 years. He pastored in Allen Dale, Michigan, and Chantilly, VA. and Covington. Paul served as chaplain of the American Legion Post #16. He also served as chaplain of the Virginia Baptist Hospital and Lynchburg General Hospital. Paul also served as district superintendent for the Wesleyan Church for 10 years.
Paul is survived by his daughter: Karen Gillespie; son: Jack Welby Wheeler and wife, Deb; sisters: Mary Duvall and Lorraine David; 6 grandchildren: Matt, Bill and Jimmy Gillespie, Kym Andrews, and Laura and Jacob Wheeler and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday night August 15, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 4 pm at Crosspoint Wesleyan Church with Rev. Barry Lawson officiating. Military Honors by American Legion Post
