Paul Roger “Capt. Seaweed” Berube, 83, of Moneta, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, July 19, 2017. He was born in South Swansea, MA on April 1, 1934. He was the son of the late Arthur Theodore Berube and Edna Frances Grenier Berube. In addition to his parents Capt. was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Hart Berube and a daughter, Diane Louise Hall.

Capt. was a parishioner of Resurrection Catholic Church in Moneta. He served his country in the United States Navy. Afterwards he received training to become an air traffic controller. He pursued that career until his retirement with Roanoke/ Blacksburg regional airport in Roanoke.  He loved spending time on Smith Mountain Lake. He was very well known in the community and will be missed by so many. He never met a stranger. Quite often he spent his time socializing and taking long strolls across the lake in his antique boat. He could often be found at social gathering, spending time with his family and friends and always offering a helping hand to a friend in need. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, sports cars, traveling and animals of all kinds.

Capt. is survived by his two children, Danny Berube and his wife, Regine and Denise Berube; three grandchildren, Israel Berube, Abigail Easter and her husband, Jason and Katie Hall; two great-grandchildren, Sundari Berube and Robert Easter; one sister, Joy Bigos and her partner, Carl Ohlson also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and so many friends.

A funeral mass and celebration of his life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Resurrection Catholic Church in Moneta with Father Salvador Añonuevo officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until 11:00 am prior to the service.
